The bridal distrct of Toronto itself is a story of diaspora and exploitation, the making of the wedding gowns changed hands from crafting Italian women to Chinese women, and to cheap labours in Asian countries overseas.
I wrote on the underskirt of this wedding dress a short story of Ah Sau, an immigrant from China embroidering wedding gowns in a factory around Spadina and Dupont area. I met her in the Community Health Centre of South Riverdale. The demanding job claimed her keen eyesight and health. Visitors were invited to write in their responses or their own bridal gown stories on the gown.
