在玉林之事上想寫點東西很久了, 這個地方性的節日越反越紅, 單是反對和呼籲慈悲, 看來無用, 特別是對暴力和欺壓習以為常的群眾. 要有效, 便要找他們會關心的是甚麼, 和讓他們明白他們背後所付出的代價, 和跟這些動物的連繫. 這文章去了解問由階級問題切入, 也是對將人類和動物二元分化, 並將動物置在底層, 疑人類問題未解決還為什麼關注動物的回應 :
1.低下階層 : 貓狗等動物沒有檢疫, 敢吃毒害偷來但比豬牛平價的貓狗都是「膽正命平」, 和容易被迷思蠱惑的低下階層. 發病了, 出事了, 都是這些人首當其衝.
2. 老年人 : 獨生子女在別的地方漂. 家中小動物是他們感情的依賴與舒緩, 相依為命的貓狗被偷, 對他們是很大打激.
就健康而言, 最近有究報指廣西肝癌發病及死亡率高，而玉林近年發病率飊升８成，懷疑與吃狗有關，因狗肉烹煮過程可產生致癌物質．另外最近，還發現了豬流感洗牌已洗牌到了廣西狗隻上，會在密集空間爆發傳播. 這些擠在一起的狗狗, 集體發病不是出奇. 吃了，又是他們的大禍．
那麼廣西玉林是個什麼地方 ：去年數字，廣西人均ＧＤＰ排行尾六 (已經是狂奔了)，雖然玉林在廣西的排名不錯，但這個山多地少的地方，出入口卻於廣西排名尾五(１０／１４)，看出來這是沒有什麼工業農產資源的地方． 旅遊／狗肉旅遊可能成為了玉林改善經濟的寄望．當這種粗暴但低廉的享受推出之後, 本來只是地區事情, 在網上的激烈的罵戰變成了最佳推廣, 迅速爆紅. 被受置疑者，緊抱簡單薄弱的個人自由和狗肉「傳統」為理由, 強烈反抗. 這層人物, 在社會已無什麼資源, 狗肉節這麼具代像徵性和他們慬有的節目被觸及, 自然會出現強烈的抵抗情緒, 即使多數人反對.
據2016年一頂全國調查，有６５％的人反狗肉節. 玉林包括官員一意孤行，頂著全國壓力，必有其因．最近兩頂健康研究發現，原來舉辦狗肉節是在飲宗鸩止渴，毒害自己, 不知他們是否有悔, 讓盛夏的快樂成為了那麼多人的催命符, 治癌昂貴, 地方和那些吃狗民眾都負不起.
我們無法解決那兒的階級性與經濟不公，但最少我們可以嘗試知道他們更多，避免對他們典型化的歧視和記恨．聽說香港也有人組隊前往玉林, 也有從世界各地而來的. VEW希望各界在玉林的行動不單與賣狗肉者相懟，更會讓那些在玉林的吃狗者，明白放過貓狗，就是放過自己, 知道自己與那些被屠吃的命運的關連; 也可以動之以情，放過依靠動物友伴的老人家．
最後，最想見到和出現的，便是讓前往吃狗者有機會親迎狗狗，讓他們近距離建立感情，心境180度大轉變. 順道推廣素食和觀念.
國內保護動物法一直沒法出台,即使支持者眾, 其中原因可能是支持狗肉者的群情洶湧. 針對性的以柔制鋼, 從他們的利益出發, 改善經濟 或許會有成效, 否則, 他們只會愈窮愈見鬼

Mentioning these things is VEW’s hope that actions now under brew targeting Yulin, could respond to the ill fate and unjustices faced by the people and the animals there. So that these people realized that their fate and these animals are so connected, and also they could be causing distress in empty nest elderly people relying on their companion animals that got stolen. It is also important to give a face to the Yulin and its people lest that some may fall into a reductionist and discriminating trap against them.
